How to Calculate Attendance % Step by Step

Maintaining a good attendance record is crucial for students to stay eligible for exams and maintain academic discipline. Most institutions require at least 75% attendance. Here is how you can calculate yours.

Easy Steps to Calculate Attendance Percentage

You only need two numbers: the number of days you were present and the total number of working days.

  1. Count Present Days: Total number of days you actually attended classes.
  2. Total Working Days: Total number of days the school/college was open.
  3. Apply Formula: Divide present days by total days and multiply by 100.

The Formula:

Attendance % = (Total Days Present / Total Working Days) * 100

Example Calculation

If your college has been open for 210 days this year and you attended 180 days:

Calculation: (180 / 210) * 100 = 85.71%

Your attendance is well above the 75% mark!

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I was on medical leave?

In many institutions, medical leave is considered 'excused,' but it may still count as an absence in your raw percentage. Check your student handbook for specific rules.

How many more days do I need to attend to reach 75%?

If you are below 75%, you can calculate the required days by solving for 'X' in: (Current Present + X) / (Current Total + X) = 0.75.

Does half-day attendance count?

This depends on your school's policy. Usually, attending at least 2 or 3 periods counts as a full day of attendance.
