The Mathematics
Percentage = (Total Marks Obtained / Maximum Expected Marks) × 100Sum the marks you obtained in all your subjects, divide that sum by the maximum possible total marks for all those subjects, and multiply the result by 100. If your board uses a "Best of 5" rule, only the top 5 scores are included in the sum.
Why 10th Grade Marks Matter
Your 10th board percentage is often the first major academic milestone. It plays a crucial role in deciding your stream (Science, Commerce, or Arts) for the 11th and 12th grades. Many junior colleges and high schools have strict cutoff percentages for popular streams like PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Math).
Don't Forget Internal Assessments
Most boards have moved to a system where theory exams account for 80 marks and internal assessments/practicals account for 20 marks per subject. When entering your 'Total' scores, make sure the obtained mark is out of the full 100 (Theory + Internal) to get an accurate overall percentage.
