Converting percentage to CGPA is just the reverse of the CGPA-to-percentage rule your board or university publishes. Because CBSE popularised the 9.5 multiplier, ÷9.5 is the default assumption in India — but it is not universal.

Note the cap: with the ÷9.5 rule, anything above 95% maps to a 10.0 CGPA — CGPA never exceeds the scale maximum.

In every case, state which formula you used — “8.42 CGPA (÷9.5 basis)” is verifiable, a bare number is not.
