Numbers to Words Converter
Convert a number to words in English — for writing cheques, drafting contracts or filling government forms. Toggle between Indian (lakh / crore) and International (million / billion) numbering.
How the conversion works
We split the number into digit groups, then look up each group in a positional name table. Indian system groups by 1-2-2-2 digits (`1,00,00,000` reads as 1 crore). International system groups by 1-3-3-3 (`10,000,000` reads as ten million).
When you'll use this converter
- Writing the amount on a cheque ("Rupees fifty thousand only")
- Drafting legal contracts ("a sum of Rupees five lakh")
- Filling tax / income forms
- School and exam answer sheets
- Avoiding ambiguity between Indian and international counting
Frequently asked
How do I write ₹50000 in words?
₹50,000 = "Rupees Fifty Thousand only" (both Indian and International systems agree at this scale).
How to write 2500000 in words (Indian)?
2,500,000 (Western) = 25,00,000 (Indian) = "Twenty Five Lakh" or "Two Million Five Hundred Thousand".
Why "only" at the end of cheque amounts?
"Only" prevents fraud — it stops anyone from adding more words after the amount (e.g. converting "Five Thousand" into "Five Thousand Five Hundred").
